Bracken is one of the most ancient plants living upon this planet and can be found in many countries throughout the world. It can make its own contribution to the seasonal variety of the landscape, and whilst existing in relatively small areas, it can actually be aesthetically pleasing. However, these areas usually only remain small for a limited period of time, most eventually expanding.
Uncontrolled bracken expansion can have serious consequences:-
- Destruction of most other species leading to loss of biodiversity
- Health implications for both livestock and humans
- Serious economic losses to the farming industry
- Significant risk to future food security if large areas of land are allowed to become inundated with bracken
